The Apostolic History traditionally attributed to Abdias of Babylon, one of the 72 disciples of Jesus of Nazareth, was viewed as the authoritative account of the lives of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus of Nazareth for centuries. In ten chapters, Saint Abdias tells the stories of Peter, Paul, Andrew, James the Great, John, James the Just, Simon and Jude, Matthew, Bartholomew, Thomas, and Phillip. The stories of Matthias, Barnabas, Mark, and Clement of Rome were often also found to be included in the Abdias of Babylon anthology. The Lives of the Twelve Apostles according to Abdias of Babylon: Abridged Edition with Study Guide is a companion volume to The Further Acts of the Apostles according to Abdias of Babylon, Disciple of Christ. In addition to a condensed version of the Abdias collection, the Apocryphal Acts associated with Leucius Charinus, the Acts of Peter according to the Ebionite Jews, also known as the “Pseudo-Clementine” literature, and the so-called “Ethiopic-Abdias,” properly called “The Contendings of the Apostles” (Gadla Hawaryat) are also explored and discussed. In the Study Guide, several stimulating questions are brought up and many interesting topics related to the Apostolic Acts, some controversial, are explored. Read more
